Basenji用手作りセーター
Basenji一家は、そのルーツがアフリカのせいか、とても寒がり屋です。
なにしろ、当庵にきたばかりのころは一年で最も寒い時期だったせいもあって、しょっちゅう風邪をひいては下痢をしていましたし、その後、陽気が暖かくなってきても、散歩中ちょっと立ち止まると、もうガタガタと震え出だす有り様で、あまりにも見るに忍びなかったことから、ちょっと寒かったり、外出するときには服を着せることにしました。
その当時は、犬用の服を売っているようなペットショップは見当たりませんでしたから、Basenjiの養母が手作りで色々試行錯誤を繰り返し、ようやく安くて、簡単で、かつBasenji達にとって着心地のよい（と思われる？）今のものに落ち着き、当庵の専売特許としました。
・・・・と云うと、いかにも大袈裟ですが、早い話が、着古したり、特売やフリーマーケットの割安のセーター、ジャージー、スウェットなどを応用するわけです。
それでは、これから当庵のBasenji一家ご用達のセーター制作手順を、画像をまじえて公開しましょう。
ただし、営利目的に利用するのはお断りですゾッ！ Because the breed's over sensitive to the cold as we previously mentioned, our basenjis usually put on the homemade clothes to prevent from diarrhea and/or cold except during the midsummer. Hereupon, we'll open to the public how to make the just-fit clothes easily for the breed at home, as bellow. 1. まず、体型を見て利用する材料を選びます。
ニットなどのストレッチ素材やフリースが適当です。厳冬期のジャケット用には化繊綿やダウンの
キルトも利用できます。
小犬の場合は、女物の袖やパンツの足が、成犬用には男物の袖やパンツの足が手ごろでしょう。 The sleeves of a second-hand sweater, sweat shirt, jersey and/or trouser legs can be used. Streching materials such as knitted goods, fleeces and wools are recommended.
2. つぎに、首と背の長さに合わせてカットします。

袖先や裾のゴム編部分から10〜20cm（大きさによる）が、Basenjiの襟首部分になりますから、一度頭が抜けるかどうか試しておきましょう。少しきつくても、後から切り開いて緩めることができます。 Shear the sleeve along the solid line as shown in the photo. You may want to try to put the sleeve through your basenji's neck to see if the cuff is wide enough.
なお、材料の袖や足の縫い目が、Basenjiの腹部側になるようにカットしてください。 The seam of the sleeve comes to the breast side of the basenji.
3. それから、前足を通す開口部をカットします。

材料の袖先や裾のゴム編部分を上方にして、材料の縦の縫い目を中心に、Basenjiの襟首部分の長さを余した位置から、「ハの字」となるように、左右対称に直線的にカットします
「ハの字」の上の開きは、成犬で6cm（縫い目から左右3cm）程度、下の開きは10cm（縫い目から左右5cm）程度、長さは10cm程度が目安です。 Cut and open holes along the solid line as shown in the photo. For adult, the space between the narrow end of the line is about 2.5 inches and the wider end is about 6〜7 inches.
4. カットした切り口を毛糸でかがり、ほつれを抑えます。

前足を通す開口部は、ある程度伸縮する余地を残すため、やや緩やかに、腰部はしっかり硬くかがりましょう。 Hemstitch the cut-end to prevent from fraying.
さー、でき上がりです。
5. 首の部分が少しきついようなら調整します。
ゴム編部分の喉側を5cm程切り開いて、毛糸でかがります。
ぜひ、お試しください。

それから、肩から尾の付け根までの長さに、着せると少し短くなる分を見込んで、襟首部分の長さを加えて、カットラインの目安をつけ、雌の場合は材料の肩の縫い目と平行程度の角度に、また、雄の場合は、より斜めに深くカットします。
Even if it's a little bit too tight, you can adjust it later.

The space between the cuff and the tip of the opening is about 4 inches.
Hemstitch.
Adjustment.
If the neck's too tight, snip it open the seam about 2 inches in length and hemstitch the cut-end.

Basenji用ふん尿受け具
室内では、気長にトイレの場所を覚えさせて、そこにするようにしつけるわけですが、当庵の何年にもわたる Basenji一家との共棲から、今では彼らも「オシッコ」と云う言葉を覚えて、朝や食後は「オシッコ！」と声をかけるとトイレに行ってオシッコをするようになりました。
こうなると、うまくタイミングを測れば、なにかで受けてやることができるようになります。
また、散歩中はオシッコは立ちションで勘弁してもらうとしても、大きいほうは回収する必要があります。
このようなわけで、当庵では、"Handy UF-Catcher" と名づけた簡易ふん尿受け具を実用新案しました。
Hereafter, we'll show you how to make the urine/feces catching tool "Handy UF-Catcher" for the breed at home.
それでは、これから Basenji用 "Handy UF-Catcher" の作り方を公開しましょう。
使ってみると、思ったより重宝なものですからどうぞお試しください。
材料には、市販の、グリップのついたサラダオイルなどの樹脂容器の空いたものを使います。
この空容器を、写真(Photo/click here)のように、容器の底の方を切り除いたのちに内壁についたオイルを洗い流し、よく乾かしたら完成です。
As shown in the photo, cut off the bottom side of the empty plastic bottle with handle such as the salad oil bottle and wash off the residua.
大きいほう用には、適当サイズのビニール袋を容器内に挿入して(Photo/click here)使い、使用後は、内容物入りのビニール袋だけを回収します。
When you want to use the tool as the feces catcher, put an appropriate size of vinyl sack into the tool as shown in the photo and catch the feces of your breed in it.
オシッコ用には、ビニール袋を挿入した容器に、更にアカチャン用の紙オムツを挿入してつかいます。(Photo/click here)
The other hand, when you want to use it as the urine catcher, put a baby's napkin into the above mentioned as shown in the photo.
散歩のときには、このUF-Catcherを持ち歩き、Basenjiがカンガルースタイル？(このフレーズは、ヤム母さんオリジナル/B-JP:00050からのイメージです。）になって固まったら、大急ぎで後ろにまわってキャッチングのスタンバイをいたしましょう。
様子を思い浮かべるだけで、笑っちゃいますねー・・・・

最近、米国で出版された、Basenjiが主人公で登場する子供の絵本を入手しました。 Let's recommend a illustrated juvenile book to you.
キリスト誕生のお告げで旅にでたエジプト３賢人に、
日本にも沢山の、おもしろい創作昔話がありますが、この物語は、日本人の心の中にも、すっきりと落とし込むことのできる、日本昔話に匹敵する素敵な昔話絵本(photo-left/click to enlarge)です。 It's a story about a female basenji in Egypt who accompanied the three wise men on their quest for the Christ Child.
特に、この絵本の挿し絵に描かれているBasenjiのしぐさや表情は、Basenjiと毎日を過ごしている者でなければ判らない、それはそれは、みごとなほどに機微に触れたでき栄えです。 The illustrations are quite good. ○ The Story of Tongdaeng. いま タイでは プミポン・アドンヤデート現国王（ラーマ9世）原著のバセンジー解説書がベストセラーです。 Secondly, we'll introduce you a cartoon.
愛犬家で知られる国王が 愛犬（バセンジーミックス？犬）”ドンデン”との生活から その生い立ちから現在に至るまでのトピックスを書き物にしたものですが 内容は国王みずからが熱心に調べ 体験したバセンジーについての知識を ”ドンデン”になぞらえて書き表わしたバセンジーの解説です。
In 2002, the King of Thailand wrote the book "The story of Tongdaeng" which was the story of his most favorite inteligent and devoted dog, named "Tongdaeng".
The colourful cartoons are very lively, giving an illustration movement.
We're sure, the cartoon'll be the most appropriate basenji guide for the general publick.

特に昨年 絵（漫画）本バージョンが発売されてから 広く国民に読
まれるようになったようで 既に数次に亘って版を重ねています。
常々タイ国王をエスコートする忠犬トンデン（Tongdaeng)は タイ国民の多くが知るところです。
トンデンはバセンジーの血を引くと見られる雑種ですが 1998年に国王の元に引き取られて成長するとともに その優れた 多様な資質を発揮したことから 国王のバセンジーに対する知的好奇心は大いに深まり かくして 今 国王自ら タイでは大変希少なバセンジーについて その系統保存に積極的に取り組んでおられるということです。

Basenjiのアニマルテラピー
THERAPEUTIC STUDYBasenjiが持つ、微妙で心温まる意思表現や伝達の方法、仲間やリーダーの気持ちを読み取る鋭敏な感覚と相手を思いやる心優しい動作など、他の犬種には見られないBasenjiが持つ固有の繊細な特性は、すべてのパートナーとなったヒトをBasenji中毒に陥らさせずにはおきません。
