Gion Festival yoiyoiyama (Kyoto Japan)
Taishi-yama float
This float is dedicated to Syotoku Taishi who was a crown prince during the Asuka period in Japan, and in thus named for him. The Taishi-yama is unique for being the only float in the Gion Festival tha has a central wooden pole made from Japanese cedar, and not from the commonly used pine. A small image of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, is enshrined in the ceder pole.
