By flying sparks of the great fire of 1788, Honmaru palace, and Sumiyagura was burned down. However, was never to be rebuilt. In 1894, the palace Katsuranomiya was in Kyoto Gyoen Garden has been relocated to Honmaru. Honmaru palace of today is this building.
