The theme of the KAIYUKAN Aquarium is based on the new "Gaia Hypothesis", advocated by Mr. James Lovelock. This hypothesis explains that the earth with its volcanic activities and all its creatures are interrelated to each other and belonging to one body of life. In reality, the volcanic zone surrounding the Pacific Ocean (Pan Pacific Volcanic Zone) almost overlaps the areas that are filled with numerous creatures.
