Nowadays, Matsuo-dera temple, known for its history as Japan's oldest YAKU-YOKE pilgrimage spot, is also the headquarters of Matsuo-san Shingon sect. YAKU-YOKE is the customs which go to a temple or a shrine to pray, in order to protect from evil, if it becomes a certain age.
