Ren Lansheng, owner of the garden,was impeached, and intending to make up for his pastwrongdoings, derived the name of his garden from Zuozhuan??Twelfth Year of Duke Xuan, meaning gretreating to ponderh. Yuan Long, designer of the garden, was steeped in poetry, prose, calligraphy and painting, and ingeniously designed the garden in accordance with the features of the natural landscape.
