UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites, Todaiji Temple was built in the Nara period (710-749 AD) at the behest of Emperor Syomu (724-749). The chief object of workshop is Vairocana Buddha, who is also the central Buddha in the KegonSutra. The Grate Buddha Hall ranks as the largest wooden structure in the world.
